Why do people seek therapy?
People come into therapy for many reasons. Both individuals and couples want more nourishing relationships. Couples want to improve communication, increase emotional trust, feel more connected, to be a team instead of bickering with power-struggles, and to bring back the passion and desire they once had together. Tools help couples work together at an accelerated pace to get real results, not just "talk therapy"! Many people want to use tools to rid themselves of buried pain and depression, to use tools for anger triggers, to reduce anxiety that causes their lives to stay stressed or tense. Therapy can provide support, problem-solving skills, and enhanced coping for issues such as depression, anxiety, lack of confidence, relationship troubles, unresolved childhood issues, grief or loss, anger triggers and conflicts, stress management, body image issues, and creative blocks. People seeking psychotherapy want to invest some time and effort into changing their patterns and healing core wounds that are holding them back.
How are tools different than "talk therapy"?
During sessions you will be given tools, workbooks and materials to help you explore your relationship with more depth and insight into the patterns that are keeping you stuck. Therapy will help you to understand the underlying causes of issues not just complaints, blaming and pointing the finger. In "talk therapy" you show up and have your same old complaints and fights and try to get the therapist to side with you. This is slow, drawn out therapy that can take years and is not productive. Tools guide you to understand your 50% of the responsibility and to use specific tools to actually do it different! Usually clients attend weekly sessions or twice a month. We also have the staff for you to be able to have some individual sessions simultaneously while doing couples work. Because our staff has a team approach we will consult and work to help you have faster and deeper changes! Therapy "works" faster when you are an active participant, both in and outside of the therapy sessions so a homework coaching program is offered at no cost to you! You can use the tools at your own pace to grow at a very accelerated rate or more gradually with the support you need to feel comfortable.
What benefits can I expect from working with a therapist?
Therapy sessions are designed to guide you in increasing your insight so you can use tools to learn how to bring the highest-functioning part of your personality to your life and relationship. Too often we struggle when we communicate and connect with the most wounded part of ourselves! Tools can be used to make your lifestyle healthier and more mature. You can grow out of using addictions for emotional crutches. You can remove the emotional "walls" that keep you feeling alienated and alone. Tools can help you give up the need for excessive control in your life and relationships. Many people find therapy to be a tremendous asset to their personal growth, for healthier relationships, to improve family concerns, and reduce the stress we react to the hassles of our daily life. Personal growth allows all of us an opportunity to grow out of the emotional baggage that interferes with reaching our potential, feeling vibrant and fully alive, and being open in our relationships.
